Octolaunch Privacy Policy
Octopuxx Labs ("we") respects the privacy of Octolaunch users ("the app"). This policy describes what data the app processes and how
1. Summary
Octolaunch contains no analytics, advertising, tracking or crash-reporting tools. Your layout and preferences stay on your Mac. The app connects to the internet only to manage licenses (through Freemius) and to check for updates (on our website)
2. Data stored on your Mac
The following information stays on the device and is never sent to us:
- The layout of apps and folders, saved in
Application Support/Octolaunch - Preferences (background color, grid size, language, Dock and menu bar options) stored via macOS
UserDefaults - The start date of the free trial, and the license key and activation details once a license is activated
- Layout exports, saved as files in a location chosen by the user
3. Licenses and purchases (Freemius)
Octolaunch is sold and its licenses are managed through Freemius, Inc., which acts as reseller and payment processor
- Purchases: payment details are entered on Freemius's checkout and processed by Freemius and its payment providers. We never receive card data. Freemius shares with us the buyer's name, email address and order details, which we use only to manage the license and provide support
- Free trial: the 7-day trial is tracked on the Mac. Nothing is sent to start it
- Activation and validation: when a license key is entered, periodically afterwards to check that it is still valid, and when a license is deactivated, the app sends Freemius the license key, a device identifier derived from the Mac's hardware ID through a one-way hash, and the Mac's name as set in System Settings. If the user enters them in the activation window, also their name and email address
Use of this service is also subject to Freemius's own privacy policy
4. Updates
The app checks for updates by downloading a small file from www.octopuxxlabs.com, automatically on a schedule (this can be turned off in the app's menu) or when the user asks. If an update is available, it is downloaded from the same website
Like any web request, this check reveals the IP address and the versions of the app and of macOS to our hosting provider. We do not use this information to identify users
5. Sharing with third parties
Octolaunch shares data only with the technical providers strictly necessary to deliver its features:
- Freemius, Inc.: licenses and payments (§3)
- Cloudflare, Inc.: hosting of our website, including updates (§4)
No data is sold or shared for advertising purposes
6. Data retention
- Data on the Mac: stays on the device until the user deletes it or uninstalls the app
- License and purchase data (Freemius): kept by Freemius for as long as needed to manage the license and to meet legal and tax obligations
- Technical records of web requests: kept by our hosting provider for a limited time, according to its own policies
7. User rights (GDPR)
If you are a resident of the European Union or European Economic Area, you have the right to: access your data, request rectification or erasure, request portability, object to processing or request its restriction, and lodge a complaint with the competent supervisory authority (in Italy, the Garante per la protezione dei dati personali)
To exercise these rights, including erasure of your license and purchase data, write to [email protected]. We will respond within the timeframes required by applicable law
8. Security
All network connections use HTTPS. Octolaunch does not ask for or store passwords
